so i went up to ole NYC this weekend to see val and partake in the fleet week festivites. it was sooooo fun. outta control fun. its nice to be up there in the summer, cuz you dont have a million things going on with school. you can just have fun and let go.
i took the train from 30th street to penn station. got to the city a little early and had lunch at a deli on W 36th. i met val and her friend jess at MSG at 2 and then we walked to the water to see the ships.
we saw a destroyer and the USS JFK. The JFK was an aircraft carrier...its sooo freaking big, yet too damn small to imagine a plane landing on it. we got to walk on the flight deck, which was really cool. to get up there, we had to stand on this huge platform that raised up. it jerked at first, but it was mad fun.
we got to go inside navy planes and take pics. good times.
the sailors are mad cute too. they have been to the middle east, along with the JFK. it was kinda creepy to be on a ship that was in the war zone, yet it made me appreicate all our boys do, esp on memorial day weekend. and the sailors are all mad young and from the middle of nowhere. like "60 miles south of new orleans", indiana, oklahoma, ohio. def farm boys to say the least.
we went out to the village for dinner. dallas BBQ. they give you HUGE portions and cornbread!!! i was sooo excited.
spent the night in brooklyn with val and then saturday i got the three hour tour of the bk. haha. the weather was amazing, so val and i drove to coney island and brighton beach. you could smell the hot dogs and salt water. i finally feel like summer is here!!
val and i ate lunch at millers diner and then i headed back. i was sad to end such an awesome weekend, but i def will be back in NYC before the summer ends. i went home from brooklyn to norristown. took 4 trains and 5 hours cuz i didnt plan it. i was winging it on my own and it felt damn good. no rush to be anywhere and just soak in the weekend some more.
now its back to getting a job and all that fun stuff. hey, the work makes the fun worth it.
helluva of a memorial day weekend in NYC.
